Flutist – Educator
The Slippery Rock University Flute Studio is committed to providing learning experiences to meet the current and future needs of today’s student. We recognize the unique power of music to express emotion, to teach, to foster communication, to access memories, to motivate, to initiate movement, and to provide enrichment for the community-at-large. The SRU Flute Studio provides an environment for serious study and musical performance as we prepare our students for successful careers in music education, music therapy, and performance.
SRU Flute Studio members have been invited to participate in masterclasses and music festivals around the country. Several studio members won competitions through the National Flute Association and the Marcel Moyse Society. Students wishing to pursue graduate work have been offered full assistantships.
The SRU Flute Studio has commissioned and premiered over 25 new works for flute ensemble and has presented powerful collaborative arts performances at the local through national levels. They have been accepted to perform multiple times at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, NAfME Easter Division Conferences and at the National Flute Association Conventions.
Anyone desiring to be a flute major or minor at Slippery Rock University must be accepted by the music department audition committee. Music applicants must apply to and be accepted by the University before auditioning for acceptance into the Department of Music (i.e., a student must be admitted to the University first before he or she can be accepted into the Music program). Audition dates are scheduled in both fall and spring semesters, and may be arranged on one of these dates by filling out and submitting the online audition form.
